September 19th, POLYRHYTHMS Third Sunday Jazz Workshop & Matinee Seriesbrings the Petravan Nuis Quartet featuring guitarist Andy Brownto the Redstone Room, at theRMEon the corner of 2nd & Main, Davenport, IA.  The Third Sunday Jazz Event begins with a workshop at 3 pm, followed by a matinee concert from 6 – 8 pm.

Petra van Nuisis a featured vocalist based in Chicago jazz since 2004. Inspired by such greats as Peggy Lee, Chris Connor, Lucy Ann Polk, Chet Baker, Billie Holiday, and Beverly Kenney, she opts for a straightforward swinging delivery with an emphasis on feeling. Relying only on the deep belief in the music she sings, her approach is simple and without affectation. Her warm intimate sound has just a touch of breathiness. Petra is a true romantic and the timeless music of the Great American Songbook is what inspires her creatively. She enjoys unearthing obscure songs and her extensive repertoire is both impressive and unique. While steeped in tradition, Petra expresses her originality in the best sense of the word, by being true to herself. This sincerity is felt by audiences and musicians alike. Petra is a musicians' singer who would rather focus on the music than on the spotlight. Wherever she sings, Petra connects with people.  “In a town loaded with singers, Petra stands out as an unusually intriguing interpreter of great material.”    Judy Roberts, Chicago Jazz Magazine.Petra’s September 19thconcert features guitarist Andy Brown.  As a leader his recordings receive warm reviews from critics and fans alike.  As a sideman he has performed with jazz notables including Harry Allen, Ken Peplowski, Hod O’Brien, Kurt Elling, Howard Alden, Jon-Erik Kellso, and Scott Robinson as well as many others. He has performed on the Oprah Winfrey show backing Barbra Streisand.  Rounding out the rhythm section will be Doug Hayes on bass and Joe Adamik on drums. Brown works often with his vocalist wife Petra van Nuis, either in duo or larger groups. They have worked together all over Chicago, as well as venues throughout the country and Europe. www.petrasings.com
