Polyrhythms’ Third Sunday Jazz Series presents the internationally-acclaimed Yogev Shetrit Trio in concert June 29 at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation Of The Quad Cities, 3707 Eastern Avenue, Davenport.
The Trio presents an educational workshop at 3 p.m. free of charge for everyone to attend. General admission for the concert is $20 (no reserved seating). Children and college students (ID required) are invited to attend the concert at no cost.
Doors open for the concert at 4 p.m. and performance doors open at 4:30 p.m.
The Yogev Shetrit Trio features Moshe Elmakias, piano; Itai Eliezri, bass; and Yogev Shetrit, drums and composition.
A composer and drummer, Shetrit earned his BA in Musicology at The Hebrew University Of Jerusalem. He later studied at The Drummers Collective, New York City, and received a full scholarship for studies at The Rimon School Of Jazz And Contemporary Music, in Isreal. He’s been a music educator for more than 25 years and performs live on a regular basis.
Shetrit was founder of the world-famous Coolooloosh Band. His craftsmanship and success afforded him the opportunity to perform with notable artists such as Chuchito Valdez, Tia Fuller, Arnie Lawrence, Paulo Morello and Kevin Mahogany.
The Yogev Shetrit Trio was created in 2016 as an outlet to feature original compositions. The group has performed in some 30 countries at large festivals and venues, including The International Panama Jazz Festival and The Kennedy Center, Washington, D.C.
The Trio has released three studio and one “live” release. “Way Of Tradition” is the group’s latest album and is receiving international acclaim. Yogev Shetrit’s compositions fuse traditional North African music, Gnawa music, Andalusian music from his Moroccan heritage, along with contemporary jazz and Mediterranean music.
This Polyrhythms performance is presented with major support from Reggie and Jeff Goldstein.
This project is also supported by Quad City Arts, through the Arts Dollars rep-granting program, supported by The Illinois Arts Council Agency, a state agency, The Hubbell-Waterman Foundation, and the Quad Cities Community Foundation-Isabel Bloom Art Education Endowment.
